Let the crisis PR begin: Passengers from stranded cruise ship due home today

Vacationers aboard the Carnival cruise ship Splendor — the one that’s been stranded off Mexico’s coast since Monday morning — are  scheduled to arrive in San Diego today. BP doctors photographs of its crisis center

Why? Why would BP do this? The oil company posted some photos on its website of its crisis response center in the Gulf of Mexico. John Aravosis, a writer at AmericaBlog ,  noticed some tomfoolery in the pictures — namely that they were altered. A BP spokesman claimed the alterations weren’t sinister, but the blogger has a compelling argument to the contrary. At this point, whom would you believe?

Should a brand’s social media voice (like JetBlue’s) change during a crisis?

Following the JetBlue crisis last week, many people wondered why the airline was so quiet in the face of massive criticism from its fans. Now, the company is being lauded for keeping calm. Unlike the recent Nestle tirade in which its administrator went gonzo on its followers, JetBlue maintained a serene facade. It must have been hard to listen and not have a knee-jerk reaction.
