ZzzQuil takes flak for engagement-themed tweet
The sleep aid brand’s Twitter account was flooded with complaints of sexism after tweeting, ‘Sleep like he finally proposed.’
For the past few months, the social media team for the sleep aid ZzzQuil has made use of the hashtag #SleepLike.
“#SleepLike the sheep are counting you,” the brand’s account tweeted in November. In December, it was “#SleepLike you got all your holiday shopping done.”
This month, the brand has issued a few #SleepLike tweets, including one late last week about an engagement.
“Sleep like he finally proposed,” the tweet read. “And you have been dating for a decade. #SleepLike #engaged #shesaidyes.”
The response to the tweet was immediate and angry. People said it was sexist and like an ad from the 1950s.
Yo @ZzzQuil I’m an adult human person, not an empty-fingered, hand-wringing pre-wife. pic.twitter.com/lBAuQpYNSd
