Never to be outdone, America Apparel received huge public criticism last week after refusing to recognize 24-year-old Nancy Upton as the winner of its “The Next Big Thing” contest, claiming she hadn’t entered the plus-sized model search “in good faith.” However, Upton sees maturity in the new way the brand’s creative director Iris Alonzo has handled the company’s follow-up to the negative hullabaloo in the press.
