Spanish hotel enables guests to ‘check in’ with their key cards

And by check in, we don’t mean to the front desk, but instead to Facebook Places.

Are you familiar with radio-frequency identification, otherwise known as RFID tags?

Wikipedia describes it as “a technology that uses communication through the use of radio waves to transfer data between a reader and an electronic tag attached to an object for the purpose of identification and tracking.”

These tags are already used in hotels as keys, but they also provide more creative uses. The Ushuaia Beach Hotel in Ibiza, Spain, encourages guests to use their bands to check-in to locations using Facebook Places, the social network’s location-based feature.
