Poster boys. This piece teaches us (or at least it taught me) that writing taglines for movie posters is an actual job. Writer Maria Bustillos spends some time with a writing duo whose portfolio includes taglines for “Little Miss Sunshine,” “Closer,” and several cable TV shows. They describe the process for producing a successful tagline, which includes competing with other tagline writers for clients, naturally.
Tweet-up comedy. Tweeting of any kind requires writing with economy, but comedic writing for Twitter requires a special knack. This piece from The New York Times focuses on a few comedy writers who honed their punch lines through establishing funny Twitter handles. It even landed one of them a writing gig on Jimmy Fallon’s show.
