PayPal clarifies user agreement after robocall worries
In a statement, the company admitted “we did not live up to our own standards” with language that made it appear it would make liberal use of robocalls and robotexts.
Paypal has clarified its user agreement after customers and regulators took issue with some wording regarding robocalls.
The original update stated that PayPal could contact users with “autodialed or prerecorded calls and text messages.” It also stated that the company could use phone numbers that were “otherwise obtained.”
No one likes robocalls—or the potential of being robocalled—so PayPal faced customer ire after stories started popping up around the Internet, including in The Washington Post, which called the policy change “horrible.”
On its corporate site, PayPal admitted “we did not live up to our own standards.” The post continues:
