Pacific Sunwear and Lilly Pulitzer receive backlash for T-shirt, fat shaming
The brands dealt with a plethora of online criticism over the holiday weekend, both making statements in order to try and set things straight.
The first is Pacific Sunwear—PacSun for the time-challenged—which displayed a T-shirt over Memorial Day weekend that featured a black-and-white American flag, positioned upside down.
The upside down flag is widely known to be a signal of distress. Some are using this fact to say the T-shirt is fine since one could argue that the country is in a state of distress. Leave it to PacSun to make us all stop and think for a moment.
This is fairly typical of the type of comments that users are posting to PacSun’s Facebook page:
My family and all of our friends will NEVER SHOP at your store again.,. YOUR company is a disgrace for allowing that…
