NFL to live-stream game through Yahoo
Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league has ‘always been committed to being at the forefront of media innovation,’ but is the move damage control from past PR problems?
Mind you, the Oct. 25 game is between the likely lowly Jacksonville Jaguars and the potentially equally inept Buffalo Bills, but still—this is unprecedented. It’s also a different stance than the National Hockey League, which recently banned Meerkat and Periscope apps from arenas during games.
A peek below the surface would tell you that this is more a PR move than an attempt to serve its growing worldwide audience.
After a season that saw the NFL at the center of a national conversation about domestic violence (and how we treat its perpetrators), and amidst the league’s outlandish grandstanding regarding alleged deflated footballs—not to mention its horrific concussion epidemic—the league is in desperate need of good PR.
