Is the shaming of Vancouver rioters on social media a tad Orwellian?

Important people are on the warpath. Notably, British Columbia Premier Christy Clark has said that no one will be able to “hide behind their bandana or their hoodie.”

But is it ethical to use and encourage social media as a tool for public shaming. As Alexander Samuel of Emily Carr University says, “The intentions behind what has happened in the past week in Vancouver are good … the use of blogs and Facebook pages (for these purposes) is a form of mob mentality of its own.”
