Greenpeace ruins Shell’s party at Formula One race
The environmental organization unfurled banners that said ‘Shell no!’ and advertised a website protesting Arctic drilling before and after the race.
As the winner for the Shell Belgian Grand Prix Formula One race was being awarded his trophy over the weekend, a banner directing people to SaveTheArctic.org, a website critical of drilling for oil in the Arctic, unfurled right in front of the stage. A man in a suit wandered over up to take the banner down. Just as he did, another banner rolled out.
Even crazier is the fact that Greenpeace, the organization responsible for crashing Shell’s race party, got the banners on the stage by sneaking into the raceway days before the race. Another banner, which read, “Arctic oil? Shell no!” opened up above the rafters before the race started.
