You’ve been away from the office (we hope) and email (yeah, right) for the past three days. Before you get sucked into another meeting, here’s what you missed:
Fox News: Tweets about president’s death are ‘malicious’ and ‘false’
Early Monday morning, someone sent six tweets from the @FoxNewsPolitics account claiming the president had been shot to death while campaigning in Iowa. A tweet also wished Vice President Biden “the best of luck” as the nation’s new leader.
The tweets were deleted 10 hours after they appeared on the Twitter account, and Fox posted this message to its website to explain the bizarre tweets:
“Hackers sent out several malicious and false tweets claiming that President Obama had been assassinated. Those reports are incorrect, of course, and the president is spending the July 4 holiday with his family. The hacking is being investigated, and FoxNews.com regrets any distress the false tweets may have created.”
The New York Times has said the Secret Service is investigating the incident.
