ESPN cuts Curt Schilling after insensitive post goes viral
The baseball commentator isn’t shy about sharing his personal views on social media, and it got him fired. Here’s how Schilling’s unwillingness to sensor panned out.
ESPN has taken former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling off the mound. In a strategic and somewhat predictable move, the broadcast network has parted ways with its former analyst. The final straw was a controversial Facebook post, which has since been deleted.
Before being deleted, a screenshot of Schilling’s post was shared with the following comment:
“A man is a man no matter what they call themselves. I don’t care what they are, who they sleep with, men’s room was designed for the penis, women’s not so much. Now you need laws telling us differently? Pathetic.” RELATED: Keep your cool in a crisis with these 13 tips.
ESPN’s statement on Schilling’s termination was brief and direct:
ESPN is an inclusive company. Curt Schilling has been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated.
Schilling has been outspoken over the years about his right-leaning political views. He was suspended last year during the Little League World Series for a tweet that compared Muslims to Nazis.
