Costco, REI, Burlington, American Girl promise to stay closed on Thanksgiving
The retailers are hoping to inspire some good will from customers by giving employees the day off as more competitors stay open.
The holiday season is fast approaching, and with it the annual list of corporate retailers that will (and will not) force their employees to work on Thanksgiving. Yes, the same Thanksgiving that is a sacred family holiday that corporations are ruining by opening their stores, pulling poor workers from their feasts and football.
Lucky for some employees (and customers who don’t want to shop at stores that make employees work on the holiday) there are corporations such as Costco.
The big box do-gooder has announced that it will remain closed on Thanksgiving, meaning that its 127,000 employees can enjoy the day as the pilgrims would have wanted.
A Costco spokesperson delivered the following statement:
Our employees work especially hard during the holiday season and we simply believe that they deserve the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving with their families. Nothing more complicated than that.
