Classic BBC News gaffe holds lessons for PR pros
If you haven’t seen the ‘wrong Guy’ video, please don’t panic. You’re about to see it—and learn a couple of things, too.
In 2006, Guy Coma showed up for a job interview at the BBC in London, but due to a mix-up he wound up on the air as an online music expert.
He handles it superbly. It’s a great case study on how even a clueless interview subject can be coached by a skilled reporter to give a reasonably sensible interview, even if they are unqualified.
Still, don’t take any chances with your media training. All new spokespersons should be accompanied by a PR rep when they attend interviews.
