Boy Scouts stresses youths’ safety amid vast sexual misconduct crisis
‘Nothing is more important than the safety and protection of children in scouting,’ the organization recently said, despite reports of nearly 8,000 accusations against volunteers.
The Boy Scouts of America is on the defensive after lawyers released the names of more than 180 former volunteers accused of sexual misconduct.
The names, which Jeff Anderson & Associates published Tuesday, are associated with Boy Scouts programs in New York and New Jersey. Anderson urged victims to take advantage of legislation changes by filing sexual assault lawsuits.
The Wall Street Journal reported:
New York lawmakers approved a law earlier this year that creates a one-year window to bring sexual-assault lawsuits, no matter when the alleged abuse occurred. The measure also pushes the deadline for abuse victims to bring civil suits from their 23rd to their 55th birthday. And it would allow prosecutors to charge people with sexual offenses against minors until the minor’s 28th birthday.
