Bankrupt! Read the message from American Airlines’ new CEO to employees
Tom Horton, the new chairman and CEO of American and its parent company, said the airline will bolster its ‘reputation as a global leader known for excellence and innovation.’
The parent company of the fourth-largest airline in the world filed for bankruptcy protection on Tuesday morning. Its chairman and CEO Gerard Arpey has retired, succeeded by Thomas Horton, the company’s president.
American issued several press releases—which you can read here—announcing the bankruptcy and giving assurances to customers that it’s business as usual at the airline.
Less than two weeks ago, the Fort Worth-based company promoted Andy Backover to vice president of corporate communications. He’s in charge of the corporate communications function at America, according to PRWeek.
Attempts to contact Backover this morning were unsuccessful—and understandably so.
