Microsoft creates multimedia experience about new Silicon Valley campus
Smart green building was showcased in a story that doubled as a microsite for reporters and consumers.
Microsoft’s 32-acre Mountain View facility in Silicon Valley—which accommodates more than 2,000 employees—is undergoing an update that will be finished in 2019, making the campus the first in the area with a net-zero water certification. To ensure greater news coverage of the update, the tech giant wanted to show the modernized facility off. Its efforts have earned first place in the “Microsite or Custom Website” category of PR Daily’s 2018 Digital PR & Social Media Awards.
Most of the tech organization offices in Silicon Valley are mind-numbingly similar, making Microsoft’s new campus an outlier. Along with a refresh of its main campus in Redmond, Washington, the Silicon Valley structure is designed to reflect the organization’s commitment to sustainability. That and other green features are showcased in posts to Microsoft’s Story Labs blog.
The Silicon Valley project cried out for greater coverage, however, leading the Story Labs team to craft a microsite that offers an immersive, multimedia experience. It is compelling to scroll through the story, which includes animations, photos and illustrations. Although the page is part of the Story Labs site, it stands on its own as a microsite for the project and has attracted a healthy number of views along with news media attention.
Congratulations to the Story Labs team of Steve Wiens, Thomas Kohnstamm, Daniel Victor and Michael Wann.
