Print Publication

Academy’s print publication is as good as anything on a newsstand

Network of external contributors helped deliver a stunning magazine.

Most professional associations produce a publication for their members, though most have transitioned to digital formats. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has resisted that trend, though, producing a visually stunning print magazine for its audience of food and nutrition professionals around the world. The publication, Food & Nutrition, is the winner in the “Print Publication” category of PR Daily’s 2018 Nonprofit PR Awards.

Print can still deliver content in a compelling way that sets it apart from the overwhelming number of look-alike digital magazines and newsletters. The magazine not only delivers the goods to members, but is accessible to non-professionals interested in the latest food and diet trends, nutrition research, policy initiatives, public health issues and cultural and social issues that shape people’s health.

The staff has assembled a network of guest bloggers, freelance writers, recipe developers, nutrient analysts and photographers whose contributions are assembled into gorgeous designs that cover the gamut from categories of foods to cooking hacks. The content is far-ranging, addressing issues from nutrition considerations for the transgender community to genome editing.

The magazine’s costs are supported, in part, with paid advertising that is aligned with its content goals. The staff measures its effectiveness through social listening, web and social analytics and readership surveys. They also monitor the activity in their social community, which connects readers directly with the publishers.

Congratulations to the Food & Nutrition team of Lauren Fox, Liz Spittler and Taylor Wolfram.
