Interview or Profile

Elsevier’s executive profile is engaging and easy to read

Crisp writing, judicious use of quotes, and clear language made this profile a winner.

Many employee publications are filled with profiles of executives and/or employees. You’ve seen them: short Q&A’s or full-page profiles.

They can often by dry and dull.

Fortunately, the profile of Michelle Troseth, executive vice president of Elsevier’s CPM Resource Center, was anything but. It won top honors in the Best Interview or Profile (Intranet) category in Ragan’s 2012 Employee Communications Awards.

The profile ran in the company’s internal electronic publication, Inside Elsevier, and was one of the pub’s best received stories: 40 comments, 15 thumbs-up, and 840 views.

The interview explores Troseth’s motivation to seek a career in health care and subsequent disappointment with how hospitals were run, leading her to her current position.

The profile was well-written, and broken up by two sidebars, as well as a call-to-action to share with others. Thankfully, it was free of jargon and included well-placed quotes.

We congratulate writer Len Maniace on the winning effort.
