Amazon faces criticism over working conditions in Scotland
Workers are accusing the retailer of mistreatment. Here’s how the problem started, how reps reacted and an official response from brand managers.
Amazon is facing heavy criticism in Scotland for creating “intolerable working conditions.”
At least three workers at Amazon’s fulfillment center in Fife, Scotland are sleeping in tents near the facility to save money on their commute. The Courier , which broke the news, says that the tent dwelling signifies “the depths some employees are apparently plumbing to hold down a job.”
The company is accused of having its workers put in as many as 60 hours per week at the facility “for little more than the minimum wage,” The Courier reports. The workers are also facing harsh conditions that include penalties for taking sick days.

One local politician, Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie, issued a statement denouncing Amazon for its poor working conditions:
