In wake of massive hack, Sony releases internal memo to public

What’s an organization to do when a cyber attack harms employees almost exclusively, but is widely reported in the press?

For Sony Pictures Entertainment, the answer was having internal communications double as PR material. The company released a memo to employees from chiefs Michael Lynton and Amy Pascal to news outlets including Variety and Reuters.

The memo reads, in part:

The privacy and security of our employees are of real concern to us, and we are deeply saddened at this concerted effort to do damage to our company, undermine our morale, and discourage us. We are enormously proud of the resilience you have all shown in the face of this attack. The company is as busy as ever, and our business continues to move forward, thanks to your great efforts.
