Brands are among the Twitter accounts sharing their condolences.
Washington Post publisher Katherine Weymouth said Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms would have made the experience more horrific.
“Can you imagine how horrifying it would have been if we had tweets from the victims on the planes or in the offices, or if they had posted to their Facebook pages?” She wrote.
Eleven years after the tragedy, Twitter is playing a significant part in the remembrance of Sept. 11, 2001. This morning, eight out of the 10 trending topics on Twitter were related to the terrorist attack, from #Remember911 to #alwaysremember.
