For 80 years, Krispy Kreme has been helping its customers get their daily caffeine and sugar fix.
Using a secret recipe he purchased, Vernon Rudolph opened the first Krispy Kreme on July 13, 1937, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. As popularity grew, stores opened throughout the Southeast before opening its first location outside the South, in Akron, Ohio.
The company is known for its classic glazed doughnuts, which customers can get fresh off the line. However, to commemorate the recent eclipse, Krispy Kreme covered its iconic doughnuts in chocolate glaze for the first time ever.
The doughnut and coffee franchise now has more than 1,300 locations in 31 countries and was acquired for $1.35 billion in 2016.
