Tiffany & Co. dismisses discrimination claims as ‘without merit’
A lawsuit filed by a man saying he’s the company’s sole African-American manager claims he was put through a performance review that was unfair.
The complaint also said that McClure got an unsigned letter saying that Anthony Ledru, senior vice president of North America for Tiffany, had said he was surprised that “a black man is representing the Tiffany brand” to a small group of other Tiffany employees.
A Tiffany spokeswoman told the New York Post that the “lawsuit allegations are completely without merit,” adding, “We welcome and value diversity in all forms.” Tiffany’s Facebook page has been pretty quiet since news of the lawsuit broke, but it has prompted a few comments. One commenter, Jerry Fitzgerald Royal, wrote, “I have shopped at many of your stores from New York, Chicago, Miami, Wash DC, and SF. What baffles me is how diverse your staff is not. So I tend to think these allegations are not unfounded.” Twitter has seen some comments on the topic, too:
